WHY DOES THIS GENERATION SEEK FOR A SIGN?
Some of our roads have road signs. You may have seen one or more signs on the road as you work along. Each of the signs stands or indicate something. There are different types of signs at various strategic places like hospitals, schools, churches, markets, banks, airports, military camps etc. These signs are not just there, they are saving purposes. A sign is a visible identification. A sign indicates, explains and even directs. We have a positive or negative sign. It can be simple or difficult. motives for asking for a sign was bad. Some ask for a sign out of curiosity to know, some ask out of pride to show off. This was the case with the Pharisees. They did not ask for a sign necessarily to know but to show their integrity, intelligence and wisdom. At times we behave and act like the Pharisees. We ask to show that we are intelligence, pride and pomposity. We ask to degrade the other person. The Pharisees came to Jesus, seeking him a sign from heaven to test him. It shows they were not interested in Jesus, nor believe or trust in him. They were not convinced about his works and power. They were in doubt about Jesus. Jesus at this moment sighed from the depth of his heart and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign”. As Christians, we are to ask for a sign that will make us know more about God and his divinity. We are to ask for a sign that will help us to know and care for the poor, the needy, the sick, the less privilege etc. We are to ask for a sign that will bring relief to those pains, the sorrowful, the afflicted and promotes encouragement and love. May the grace of God be upon us in Jesus name, Amen, “YOU ARE THE LIGHT”
