we are called to sacrifice personal ambitions and desires for the common good
Today’s Solemnity of the Annunciation recalls the acceptance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to be the mother of Jesus whose nativity we shall celebrate exactly nine months later on Christmas day.
Today’s Solemnity recalls the encounter of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Angel Gabriel where Mary made the proclamation which made her the co-redeemer: “”Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word.” (Lk 1: 38)
Mary’s unconditional “yes” to the message of the Angel made her a veritable instrument for the salvation of the entire human race.
Through her consent which she willingly gave, the act of saving humanity from sin was accomplished.
Dear friends in Christ, Mary’s “Fiat” and acceptance of huge responsibility gained us salvation, we are called to sacrifice personal ambitions and desires for the common good.
Mary’s love for God made her sacrifice her personal desire for God’s will for humanity, as children of God, we are challenged this day to set aside our personal desire in order to do the “WILL” of God.
As we mark this great day of Mary’s “Yes” to the Lord, let us pray that all Christ’s faithful, would be eager to accept and do the WILL of God in our lives.Good morning and God bless you!!!
