Persecution Of A Christian

A hen after incubating the eggs, hatch her young, protects and teaches them how to find their food. Jesus teaches us today about the ordeals, difficulties, and consequences of being his disciple. “Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.”  John 15:20. Do you want to be like Jesus? Do you want to follow him? It is not an easy task nor easy road to follow Jesus but at the end lies the crown of glory, joy, and happiness. We are in the world but of the world, the world will hate and persecute you, beware of the instruction and warning of Jesus. The closer we grow to him, the more the world hates, persecute, maltreat and misunderstand us. Amidst its benefit, it is a wrong conception to think that everyone will see our holiness and admire it. Jesus was perfect in every way but was treated with malice and persecution. It is hard to fathom the dark truth that they actually killed him. He was arrested, given a mock trial, found guilty and sentenced to death.  So as his disciples you are to anticipate and prepare for persecutions for “No slave is greater than his master.”  “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.”  These are tough sayings to accept and agree but that is the truth. Be courageous! Persecution is a clear sign that we are following in the footstep of our master. We are not to run away from this reality. Do not be despair or hold our head low when it happens. By freely accepting this abuse, Jesus redeemed the world. May we “rejoice and be glad” that we have been found worthy to follow in the steps of our Divine Lord, Amen. “YOU ARE THE LIGHT”
